Cover Page- Bad BitsWhat could I have done better on the cover page? well, I do think that the cover page is a little bit over- edited so looks a little bit fake and too edited. Olivia's (the model) face is also rather shiny as it was a sunny day when the picture was taken so I could have smoothen out her skin and gotten rid of the shine. I should also have made a boarder around the edge of the pages as on this white background, you cannot really see where the magazine finishes and the website starts. overall, I think that for my preliminary task, this wasn't a bad effort and i'm sure that I will improve on the way to making the final Music magazine at the end of the year. Cover Page- Good BitsI believe that I used the right text colours and had the right sort of idea using the burn tool to emphasise the cover lines. I also like that the Model looks happy and I like the new depth of the Clarendon college logo created by said burn tool. I also like the white boarder on the cover page. Contents Page- Bad BitsI also think that my contents page is a little bit too over-edited and that how daunting the stairs are could have been emphasised in a more subtle way other than going overboard on the burn tool. I don't like how added on the top the hexagon looks. It looks as though I have literally used the shape tool and then put text over it ( which is what i did) however, I could have either smudged or blurred around it to make it look better. Contents Page- Good BitsI like that the yellow of the writing stands out against the photo background and I all like the white boarder around this page. Another thing I think I did well with the contents page wad the positioning of the camera when I was taking the picture, making the stairs look very daunting.

I did not intentionally involve any particular props or costumes. The models were all in their own clothes and it was a fairly nice day so they were already happy. Both of my models unintentionally held their phones and bus passes in their hands and the college door was the main feature of the background of my photos as it is the entrance to all that you will discover in the college. I didn't use any props intentionally because I wanted the pictures to look at least partly natural other than the facial expressions as the life inside college is relaxed and natural; I wanted this to reflect in the pictures.
This was a tough one! Firstly, I took a picture of the stairs from the very top looking down, showing how daunting they are for lazy people like me! Then I added a white boarder around the edge of the photo to make it look more sleek in photoshop and saved the picture. I then opened InDesign and created all of the text, being careful to make it this light yellow colour as it stood out and didn't clash with the picture on the background. It also matched the writing on the front cover that I did. Next, I added the hexagon and put the text on over it using the text tool once again. I then saved it again as a different file. After that, I re-opened it in Photoshop again and used the burn and sharpen tools to make the writing look sharper and to enhance how daunting the stairs are. Finally, I decided that I didn't like how burnt the text in the hexagon was so I went back into photoshop and made it less burnt. And I was done! Here it is: This is my preliminary magazine cover. i created it on Photoshop and InDesign using a range of different techniques including the burn tool and the sponge tool. I got the logo from the internet and took a picture of that model (Olivia) at the entrance of the college looking as though she was happy to be going into college. i placed an outline of white around the edge of the picture and the logo. i then added the cover lines on the front in a bright yellow colour. after this, i sourced barcode on the internet and put that on too before transferring the cover onto Photoshop and using the burn, sharpen and sponge tool to make the picture stand out more. THIS FIRST MAGAZINE COVER IS NOT MEANT TO BE GOOD! (the slideshow shows the steps in which i made it) Here it is: Why One Model But Not The OtherMy first model, Chloe when I took pictures of her looked really awkward and was camera shy. She didn't really know what to do with herself and didn't seem confident which made her look like she didn't really love the college which was the effect that i was trying to get. Therefore, I was not being mean by not using her for my magazine (as I have made clear to her), I was merely trying to get the right effect for the cover of my magazine. My second model Olivia however, looked confident and as though she really was enjoying college. it gave off the right vibes that i wanted and needed for the magazine and meant that i thought that photo would suit my magazine better for the front cover. This is why i picked one model and not the other. |
